Seal oil is the very best source of Omega-3 on the planet. That might be my opinion and maybe even yours since you are reading this blog. But the proof is in the media and in the science too.
A new article was published last week that dealt with Omega-3 in food and the absence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Inuit's who eat a traditional diet of seal. The report was from a medical doctor.
Inflammation and cardiovascular disease (CVD) claim the lives of millions of Canadians and Americans annually. One of the primary pre-cursors to this is diet--the foods we eat and often time don't eat. When it comes to essential fatty acids most foods fall into 2 categories: Omega-3 and Omega-6. The ideal ratio is 1:1 or 1:4 in favour of Omega-6 at the very highest. Our actual diets are at about 1:40 in favour of Omega-6. Why? We're eating the wrong foods AND because the foods we eat are misleading. According to Dr. Joseph Hibbeln of the National Institute of Health, "That's what's really killing us -- the balance of Omega-3s to 6s got out of whack."
When you go to the grocery store and get bread, eggs, yogurt, milk, and every other staple food that now has "Omega-3" in it you are actually getting ALA--an essential fatty acid found in plant and seed oils. The only thing ALA has in common with EPA, DHA and DPA is the classification of "Omega-3 fatty acids." ALA does not provide the same health benefits as EPA, DHA and DPA that science has proven. The vast majority of Omega-3 products on grocery store shelves is ALA and not essential EPA, DHA and DPA..
Read your labels or avoid the grocery store "Omega-3" foods all together. Your best bet is to get the EPA, DHA and DPA health benefits from a natural source like DPA Gold Omega-3.
Fat is... good?!
Fat is bad and makes you unhealthy--right? Wrong. Omega-3 essential fatty acids derived from seal blubber do not make you fat. Seal oil has even been known to do the opposite by reducing serum triglyceride levels and potentially lower cholesterol as well.
According to Dr. Bohemier, a chiropractor, nutritional expert and health coach, "seal meat and blubber... has (sic) significant amounts of three (3) essential fatty acids EPA, DHA, DPA. The latter, is not readily found in fish oils." This is what makes seal oil a unique and effective Omega-3.
Omega-3 grocery store foods that contain no EPA and DHA and are high in Omega-6 are part of the problem according to Dr. Bohemier who believes, "a balanced Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio promotes a homeostasis, non-inflammatory state in the body while a tilt to the high Omega-6 side will promote an inflammatory and therefore disease and degenerative state." With that long quote we are to understand that we need more TRUE Omega-3 and less Omega-6 found in many foods.
Long story short: get real Omega-3 with EPA, DHA, DPA and no Omega-6. The best way to this is with seal oil. The very best seal oil is DPA Gold.
